# Permissions & server setup

HalloweenBot needs permission to interact with your Discord server. You can check the current channel with `/checkperms`.

## Basic text permissions

Ensure the bot can **View Channel**, **Send Messages**, **Embed Links** and **Attach Files** in channels where you expect it to work. Features that inspect messages or react to them may also require **Read Message History** and **Add Reactions**.

## Voice features

For `/play` and `/soundboard`, join a voice channel and allow the bot to **Connect** and **Speak** there.

## Settings permissions

The `/setup`, `/levels`, `/welcome` and `/seteventconfig` commands require **Manage Server**. They display settings and link to the dashboard, where authorised server managers can make changes.

## When permissions look correct but commands still fail

1. Run `/checkperms` in the affected channel.
2. Check the channel's permission overrides, including overrides for the bot's roles.
3. Confirm the bot can see the destination channel configured for the feature.

> Avoid granting Administrator just to resolve a command issue; prefer the permissions actually needed.
